Dr. John Coleman

Pastor

John L. Coleman is the Commissioned Pastor for First Presbyterian Church in Winnsboro and in Pittsburg. A native Texan, he is a graduate of Texas A&M University and Southern Methodist University. He has degrees in psychology, counseling psychology, divinity, and theology, as well as life coaching certifications from the John Maxwell Team and Professional Christian Coaches Institute.
John has been a university professor in psychology and theology for more than 20 years, currently at LeTourneau University in Longview. Prior to entering higher education, he was an ordained minister and senior pastor in various churches in Northeast Texas and has also served as a hospice chaplain. His earlier career was in communications, where he served as a newspaper editor and broadcaster in radio/television. He is currently working on two books—one deals with finding and living out one’s purpose in life. The other is a Christian approach to conflict resolution. Most recently, he has asked (and is working to answer) the question—“Who pastors the pastor?”

John has a daughter (Lindsey) and son-in-law (Brandon), who live in Texarkana with his three grandchildren (Kaden, Myran, and Bowen). His son, Jordan, passed away in 2020 at the age of 32. His hobbies include photography, collecting vintage records, and annoying
his grandchildren.

Tina

Administrator

I’m from Michigan originally, moved to Dallas, Texas in 1981,  to Quitman in 1994 and Winnsboro in 2004. Over my working career, I did many different things, mostly in sales once I moved to Texas. I sold computer stuff for a distributer in the 80’s, went on to Okidata for printers, then to a Software company. Tiring of the constant change, I started selling eye ware to retail outlets covering from San Angelo east to Lufkin and north to the Oklahoma border. Once we moved to Quitman I started helping my husband hanging wallpaper. I eventually worked with him full time and took over when we divorced. HGTV got busy saying “get rid of that paper” so my business was declining. In 2005 I was talked into interviewing for the secretary job here by one of the longtime members. I had previously worked in and out of offices but not as secretary. I had hung paper for one of the Session members and was mutual friends with another, so they hired me! I still hung some paper scheduling my jobs for my off time but that eventually ended when I went to work full time for Owens/Bob Evans on the afternoon shift. I was there about 4 years but took early retirement after my dad moved in with me. Dad passed in 2017. I met David in 2018. We enjoy local music on the weekends and sometimes head to the horse races.

The Session is the Presbyterian word for a "Board". The Session is made up of ordained Elders, and the Session is responsible for the spiritual leadership, mission, and overall direction of the church. They make decisions about worship, programs, finances, and how the church serves its community. In short, the Session helps guide the congregation in living out its faith with purpose, care, and accountability.

Ronny

Treasurer

It has been an honor and privilege to serve as church treasurer for the past few years.
